Jaguars predicted poach $8M rising star from Bears to protect Trevor Lawrence

Story by Ryan OLeary • 41m • 2 min read

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan had high expectations for 2024, calling his team’s current roster the best in franchise history.

Tom Coughlin’s teams of the late 1990s would like a word, Shahid.

In reality, this was never close to being the best roster in Jaguars history. The wide receiver group underwent a complete overhaul, the team took a lame-duck approach at left tackle, and the defense was left littered with young and unproven talent Jacksonville appears headed for a multi-year rebuild, and protecting newly minted quarterback Trevor Lawrence should be the among team’s top priorities.

With that in mind, the Bleacher Report scouting department predicts the team will be aggressive in 2025 free agency, signing former No. 39 overall draft pick Teven Jenkins away from the Chicago Bears.

Here was the site’s take on Jenkins to Jacksonville: “The Jaguars have some thinking to do when it comes to their offensive line. Trading away Cam Robinson is just the first decision of many the Jaguars will have to make this offseason. Another one is what to do with Brandon Scherff. He'll be a 34-year-old free agent at the end of the season. Teven Jenkins has missed some games with injuries this season, but he should be one of the most sought-after linemen on the market if the Bears let it get that far. The 26-year-old is ranked 11th in overall PFF grade among all guards.

Jenkins has sounded off about his desires to remain in Chicago, but the Bears stalled extension talks this offseason. He’s performed well in the final year of his rookie deal, and his future in Chicago is uncertain as momentum builds for a regime change from current head coach Matt Eberflus.

Jacksonville should have interest in Jenkins because of his versatility. He played tackle in college at Oklahoma State on both sides of the line. Assuming Scherff explores joining a more championship-ready roster in 2025, the Jags could target Jenkins to play guard with the option of trying him at tackle if needed.

Chicago has invested a ton of draft capital in its offensive line, also snagging tackle Darnell Wright No. 10 overall in 2023. It would behoove the Bears to let their young talent grow along with quarterback Caleb Williams, but the situation with Jenkins is one to monitor this offseason.

REPORT: What are the Jaguars' Chances in Week 10?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are among the worst teams in the National Football League but have played better over the last four weeks. This Sunday, they will take on the Minnesota Vikings at home in a game that could be meaningful for many, including Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson.

Lorenzo Reyes of USA TODAY predicts the Vikings will win 23-14. Reyes notes that while the Vikings’ defense has been somewhat exposed lately, he expects the unit to give Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones trouble on Sunday.

“Minnesota has shown some cracks recently, but defensive coordinator Brian Flores has been stellar in crafting game plans that confound opposing quarterbacks,” Reyes said.

“The Jaguars often start games slowly and are sometimes forced to rely on the passing game to catch up. That’s not where you want to be against this Vikings defense.”

Tyler Dragon of USA TODAY predicts the Vikings will win 24-17. Dragon notes that while the Vikings do not look like the same team that started the season undefeated, the Jaguars are far from a good team and have been for the entire season.

No matter how bad the Vikings play, the Jaguars are unlikely to pull off a win without Lawrence in the fold.

“Turnovers, penalties, and lapses in coverage have plagued Jacksonville this year,” Dragon said.

“The Vikings have lost two of their past three games and haven’t looked the same since a 5-0 start. However, Jacksonville isn’t a good football team. Homecoming won’t matter.

Richard Morin of USA TODAY picks the Jaguars to upset the Vikings 24-21.

It's been a disappointing nine weeks for the Jaguars, but I think they inch out a home victory against a favored Vikings team,” Morin said.

Jordan Mendoza of USA Today believes the Vikings will narrowly win a hard-fought game by a score of 24-22. Mendoza correctly notes that even while they have continued to lose more than they win, the Jaguars have played increasingly better over the last few weeks.

Still, the Jaguars' chances of beating the Vikings remain slim, and Mendoza believes the Jaguars will play well but lose a close game.

“Jacksonville has been playing tough, even though most games have ended in losses, and this one is likely the same result against a good team,” Mendoza said. “Minnesota hasn't lost to Jacksonville since 2001, and that doesn't change this year.”

Doug Pederson addresses future with Jacksonville Jaguars after Week 6 loss

Story by Andrew Buller-Russ

The Jacksonville Jaguars fell short of expectations after a 6-2 start, which resulted in a 9-8 playoff-less season in 2023. Doug Pederson and Trevor Lawrence entered their third season with much higher expectations, looking to take what they’ve learned from their past two 9-8 seasons and become a more stable contender.

Yet, that’s not what we’ve seen at all in Duval, where the Jaguars didn’t get their first win until Week 5. But Week 6 in London presented a chance for the Jaguars to build upon whatever momentum they may have gained last Sunday. However, Pederson’s team fell flat, getting routed 35-16, with a rookie quarterback running circles around the Jaguars, even throwing four touchdown passes.

Naturally, with the Jaguars moving to 1-5, the attention immediately turned to Pederson in the post-game press conference.

Doug Pederson feels confident in his job security after 1-5 start

Story by Andrew Buller-Russ

With the Jacksonville Jaguars further establishing themselves as one of the very worst teams in the NFL, reporters wanted to know how Doug Pederson was feeling about his job status after his latest loss.

Yet, after having a chance to sit and speak with Jaguars owner Shad Khan, Pederson doubled down, insisting he still feels confident in his job status heading into Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

It should be noted that the Jaguars’ schedule this week will be a bit unique. Instead of flying back home to Florida, the Jaguars will stay in London because they’ll face off against the Patriots from Wembley Stadium next Sunday. So, perhaps the Pederson hot seat watch will heat up again heading into next week’s game instead of trying to work through a coaching change in an unfamiliar atmosphere.

However, seeing Jaguars safety Andre Cisco note that there was “a lot of quit” from his teammates in the Bears loss could prompt the organization to reconsider their support for Pederson.

Pederson or may not be the problem, but it’s clear something needs to change.

Tank Bigsby Potential To Seize Workhorse Role Against Patriots

Story by RotoBaller Staff • 20h • 1 min read

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Tank Bigsby has the potential for a big day in relief of Travis Etienne Jr. in Week 7 against the New England Patriots. The starting veteran back out of Clemson is questionable with a hamstring injury, and there is a decent chance he will miss out this week based on reports. Even if Etienne Jr. does play, Bigsby is a fine start as a flex play for Sunday morning in London, as he has been great in fantasy so far despite limited touches. If Etienne Jr. misses the game, Bigsby should get most of the work and be a high-upside RB2 in a great matchup. D'Ernest Johnson should also compete for touches, but when healthy, Bigsby has certainly earned the opportunity to shine no matter who is available in Week 7.

Brian Thomas Jr. A Potential WR1 Against Patriots

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has great upside once again in Week 7 against the New England Patriots in London. There is a chance BTJ is shadowed by talented young corner Christian Gonzalez, but given the rookie receiver out of LSU has the potential for a long touchdown on any given play, there is no way that means fantasy managers should bench him. BTJ has been stellar to start his rookie campaign but was held quiet by the terrific Bears secondary last week. As long as Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense continue to improve on a rough start to the season, BTJ has a chance for a big day, even with top target tight end Evan Engram (10 receptions for 102 yards last week) now back from injury. Start BTJ with confidence as a WR2 with WR1 upside in Week 7.
